Letter of Credit
Letters of Credit (DLCs or SBLCs) are the safest and often most convenient means of financing trade related transactions. A Documentary Letter of Credit (DLC) or a Standby Letter of Credit (SBLC) is a written undertaking given by a bank (Issuing Bank) to a beneficiary on instruction from an applicant (issuing Bank’s client) to pay the beneficiary at sight, or at a determinable future date, a stated amount of money within a defined time period. This undertaking is conditional upon the beneficiary’s documentary compliance with the terms and conditions in the Letter of Credit.
Bonds and Guarantees
Bonds and guarantees are accepted globally, and help to reduce the risks of international trade. Working with trade partners abroad is often higher risk than working with partners in your own country. There is the geographical distance and varying legislation, as well as cultural differences that make it hard to fully assess the situation.
